Ombudsperson briefs USAID/Armenia Mission Director on Azerbaijan’s human rights violations in border settlements

The Human Rights Defender (Ombudsperson) of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, on Friday received a delegation led by USAID/Armenia Mission Director John Allelo, the office of the Human Rights Defender (HRD) informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Manasyan presented the issues raised as a result of the HRD fact-finding work in Syunik and Gegharkunik provinces, and human rights violations in border settlements as a result of the presence and actions of Azerbaijani armed forces in the sovereign territory of Armenia. In this context, the HRD emphasized that no political and territorial factor can prevail over the need to protect and guarantee human rights.

Also, the parties discussed the priorities of the HRD’s activities.

For his part, John Allelo presented the details of the programs implemented by USAID.

The parties expressed readiness to continue and further develop cooperation in human rights protection.
