Russia will not cut off Armenia’s gas and will not sell it at European prices either, economist, former deputy prime minister of Armenia Vache Gabrielyan expresses such opinion in an interview with NEWS.am.

“If Russian gas becomes more expensive in Armenia, it will affect price growth, competitiveness of Armenian products and lead to economic decline. As much as they say that it is possible to buy energy carriers from Iran, Russia has always offered the most favorable price. In addition, Iran has many problems in the field of oil refining,” the expert emphasized.

In his opinion, the Russian market will not be closed for Armenia, although issues related to quality may arise.

“Seventy per cent of trade turnover falls on EAEU and CIS countries. Armenia’s biggest trade and economic partner is Russia,” he reminded.

Vache Gabrielyan says he does not believe in an apocalyptic scenario, therefore, there will be no total collapse of the economy either.
