Rasim Sattarzade: Armenia should have informed Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan’s statement has nothing to do with national legislation, but with the international commitments of a party to the ESPOO convention, which state that Armenia should have informed the other party to the convention, on whose border the construction is planned, before construction begins, and should have involved it in the EIA procedure if that party has announced its intention to participate in the process.

Rasim Sattarzade, advisor to the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, said this in a conversation with Minval.az, commenting on Armenia’s statement that the steel mill at the border with Nakhchivan will be built in compliance with environmental standards and requirements.

Earlier, the Armenian side responded in its usual manner to Azerbaijan’s statement about Armenia’s wrongful actions and the negative transboundary impact of the operation of the mill on the environment.
