Russian troops launched 23 air and four missile strikes on Konstantinovka and Slavyansk in the Donetsk region. There are wounded civilians, civilian infrastructure and residential buildings are damaged. The Russians also carried out 23 attacks from multiple launch rocket systems, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
The Russian army does not abandon attempts to enter the administrative borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. It concentrates its main efforts on conducting offensive operations in the Limansky, Bakhmutsky, Avdeevsky, Maryinsky and Miners directions.
On the Volynsky, Polessky, Seversky and Slobozhansky directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly. During the day, the enemy carried out mortar and artillery shelling of the areas of the settlements of Elino, Chernihiv region, Znob-Novgorod, Seredina-Buda and Atinskoe, Sumy region and Ambarnoe, Kamenka, Novomlynsk, Dvurechnaya and Western, Kharkov region.
In the Liman direction, the enemy is trying to break through the defenses of the Ukrainian troops. In the Bakhmut direction , the Russian army does not stop the assault operations – the Ukrainian military repulsed numerous attacks in the areas of the settlements of Ivanovskoye and Bakhmut. Vasyukovka, Zaliznyanskoye, Bakhmut, Ivanovskoye, Bogdanovka, Grigorievka, Belaya Gora, Druzhba and Zaliznoye in the Donetsk region were shelled.
On the Avdeevka, Maryinsky and Mining directions, the Russians carried out unsuccessful offensive operations in the direction of Kamenka, Avdeevka, Severny, Vodyany, Pervomaysky, Nevelsky, Krasnogorovka, Maryinka and Novomikhailovka of the Donetsk region. Russian shelling fell on the areas of the settlements of Krasnogorovka, Kamenka, Avdeevka, Vodyane, Maryinka, Georgievka, Novomikhailovka and Vugledar. The Russian military dropped non-lethal aerosol grenades of the K-51 type in the area of Severny, Vodyany and Nevelskoye.
On the Zaporozhye and Kherson directions, the Russian army conducted defensive operations. The areas of Malinovka, Gulyaipole, Belogorye, Malaya Tokmachka, Gulyaipolsky, Kamensky and Zaporizhzhya (Zaporozhye region), as well as Gavrilovka, Dudchan, Kherson, Berislav, Vesely, Antonovka, Beregovoy and Veletensky (Kherson region) were shelled.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also noted that the Russians continue to suffer losses. In Berdyansk, Zaporozhye region, according to the department, local medical facilities are overflowing with wounded Russian soldiers. So, 30 people are placed in the gynecological department, from which all patients were discharged, and 80 in the surgical and ENT departments.
Russian Defense Ministry: ammunition depot and radars of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed
In the Kupyansk direction, air strikes and artillery fire from the “Western” group of troops hit units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the areas of the settlements of Gryanikovka, Kharkiv region and Rozovka, Lugansk region. Enemy losses are up to 50 servicemen, five armored combat vehicles, three vehicles and a Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
In the Krasno-Limansky direction, active actions of units and artillery fire of the “Center” group of forces inflicted a defeat on manpower and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the areas of the settlements of Nevskoye and Chervonaya Dibrova, Luhansk region. During the day, up to 90 Ukrainian servicemen, two armored combat vehicles, two pickup trucks, a D-30 howitzer and an Akatsiya self-propelled gun were destroyed in the direction.
In the Donetsk direction, the “Southern” group in the areas of Zaliznyansky, Krasny and Tonenkoe of the Donetsk region killed more than 140 military personnel, two combat armored vehicles, four pickup trucks, three cars and two D-30 howitzers per day.
In the South-Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions, aviation and artillery of the Vostok group inflicted a defeat on the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the areas of Prechistovka and Vugledar, Donetsk region. British intelligence: a “death zone” appeared in Bakhmut
Over the past four days, the Wagner Group has seized control of the eastern part of Bakhmut in the Donbas. The Bakhmutka River, which flows through the center of the city, has become the new front line, according to British intelligence.
Ukrainian forces have concentrated in the western part of the city and destroyed the main bridges over the river, which crosses the city from north to south, and around it there is an open area 200 to 800 meters wide.
Since the UAF can fire from the buildings occupied and fortified by them in the west of the city, this area has turned into a “death zone”, which is likely to make it very difficult for the Wagner forces to further a frontal attack on the part of Bakhmut left behind by the Ukrainians.
However, Ukrainian forces and their westward supply lines remain vulnerable to continued Russian attempts to envelop the defenders from the southern and northern flanks.
Institute for the Study of War – the threat from Belarus is minimal, Russia wants a coup in Moldova
In the Kupyansk direction, according to Russian sources, limited attacks by Russian troops continue along the Svatovo-Kremennaya line. At the same time, the Ukrainian General Staff did not report this. From the available information from this sector of the front, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) concludes that the Russian Airborne Forces give priority to the Svatovo-Kremennaya line and are going to operate more efficiently in this area.
In Bakhmut, Russian forces have occupied the eastern part of the city and, as of March 10, continue to clear areas beyond the Bakhmutka River. The slow advance continues. So, in the north-west of the city, the Russians advanced to new positions 800 meters from the Artemovsky Metal Processing Plant (AZOM). According to the Institute’s analysts, the tactics of the Russian troops and their concentration on the industrial zone indicate that the Russian troops are still more inclined to storm the fortifications of Ukrainians in the forehead, and not to carry out encirclement operations.
The intensity of fighting in Bakhmut remains high, according to the Institute, citing the press secretary of the Eastern Group of Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Serhiy Cherevaty. The latter added that the main part of the “Wagner group” had already been thrown into battle. Referring to military bloggers, the Institute’s analysts claim that units of the Russian Airborne Forces, apparently, are replacing Wagner fighters in the Bakhmut direction. At the same time, Yevgeny Prigozhin warns that the Ukrainians are preparing a counterattack in the area.
On March 10, Russian troops continued to attack on the Avdiivka-Donetsk line, but were unsuccessful. An attack was also made on Ugledar, which the Russian marines and units of the Eastern Military District are trying to take. Their ability to take the Carbon is questioned by experts from the Institute for the Study of War.
In the Kherson region, Russian forces continue reconnaissance activities near the islands in the Dnieper delta, Ukrainian press services claim the destruction of seven ships of the Russian Navy of unnamed classes. Currently, the islands are not controlled by anyone. According to Ukrainian sources, the Russians launched artillery strikes on Kherson, Zaporozhye, Nikopol, Dnepropetrovsk and Ochakov, Kherson region. Also, the General Staff of Ukraine reported that the Russian army deliberately fired on Oleshki, occupied by the Russian Federation, on the left bank of the Dnieper.
The Wagner Group continues to expand its recruitment of new mercenaries, for which it is likely to increase the number of recruiting centers. This is done to compensate for the loss of the opportunity to recruit prisoners and make up for losses after the bloody assaults on Bakhmut.
At the same time, Yevgeny Prigozhin pointed out that Russian officials could temporarily cover the need for shells for the Wagnerites, possibly at the expense of other units. At the same time, units of the regular Russian army sometimes record videos where they also complain about the lack of ammunition for guns, and are indignant that PMCs send shells when the regular troops do not have them. Complaints by Russian military personnel about inadequate conditions of detention, lack of materiel and poor command in general have increased over the past month, writes the Institute for the Study of War. So, for February and March, they have already managed to complain about the video of formations from 16 Russian regions.
Russian officials are planning to create volunteer formations from Russians for possible mobilization in the occupied part of the Zaporozhye region. According to the mayor of Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, the mobilization will not be voluntary, but forced.
The Russian authorities continue their attempts to integrate the occupied part of Ukraine into mainland Russia. Thus, according to the head of the occupation administration of the Zaporozhye region, Russia will soon include the roads of the region in the federal road network of Russia and will build a direct four-lane highway “Tavrida-2”, which will connect the occupied Crimea with Rostov-on-Don.
The Institute for the Study of War rates the possibility of an offensive into northern Ukraine from Belarus so low that it has ceased to consider activity in the region as a sign of a possible impending attack. If the threat increases, the Institute’s analysts will once again increase their attention to the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. So far, Russian and Belarusian forces are conducting exercises at the country’s training grounds.
Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War write that individuals associated with Russian intelligence may be planning an armed coup in Moldova. March 10 edition of CNN reported that this opinion is shared by officials in the US White House.
According to CNN, pro-Russian individuals, with the support of Russian intelligence services, are planning to organize protests against the country’s government in order to end everything with a “fabricated uprising” and install an administration loyal to the Russian Federation in Chisinau.
The publication added that Russia has already launched a disinformation campaign, spreading information about alleged instability in Moldova and supporting them with information operations carried out from Transnistria.
In the rear areas of Russia, ISW reports, the Russians continue to build defensive lines – while, the Institute notes, fortifications are being built where, most likely, there will never be hostilities. Thus, the Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on March 9 that the construction of a “security line” along the border with Ukraine had been completed in his region, and Russian troops should allocate units to defend this line in the event of an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Belgorod region. According to Gladkov, the “line” cost 10 billion Russian rubles ($132 million) – an Institute for the Study of War notes that this is probably a waste of money.
In addition, the Ukrainian General Staff reported on March 10 that similar fortifications are being built along the Russian-Ukrainian border in the Kursk region (where there will most likely not be any hostilities either). And the head of the occupied Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, said on March 10 that defensive structures were being built on the peninsula, and hinted that the construction was being carried out on the orders of Vladimir Putin himself.
Institute analysts believe that the construction of fortifications in the Kursk and Belgorod regions may also be part of an information operation aimed at creating the impression of a threat from Ukraine to Russian territories. And the line in Crimea may indicate the uncertainty of the Russian military in the ability to keep the territories occupied in the south of Ukraine. At the same time, the defensive lines are not yet occupied by any troops.
The Commissioner for Children’s Rights in Russia, Maria Lvova-Belova, confirmed, writes the Institute for the Study of War, that the Russian government continues to initiate the export of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation. Lvova-Belova accused the West of fomenting fear of deportation and forced adoption and said that children come to the territory of Russia and parts of Ukraine occupied by it voluntarily and can return to their families if they wish.
At the same time, the official admitted that children from the Kherson, Kharkiv and Zaporozhye regions were taken to the “sanatorium” of the occupied Crimea and the Krasnodar Territory. Earlier, representatives of the Institute mentioned schemes in which children, under the guise of holiday programs, are first taken to Russia, and then at least some of them are detained for forced adoption.
