On Thursday, November 3, the Parliament of Bulgaria voted to authorize the supply of weapons to Ukraine against the backdrop of Russian aggression.

175 deputies voted “for” and 49 — “against,” while one MP abstained in the vote that followed a four-hour debate on Thursday, November 3.

The “green light” from parliament gives the Bulgarian government one month to draft a decision on the military and military-technical assistance that Bulgaria has to provide to Ukraine.

The government is also required to organize the signing of agreements on defense assistance as soon as possible, taking into account “Bulgaria’s capabilities.

In addition, the parliament’s decision requires the government to negotiate with Bulgaria’s NATO allies to provide the country with military equipment and thus speed up the time frame in which Bulgaria must dispose of its outdated Soviet-era weapons.

The parliament also requires the government to propose a package of measures for Bulgaria’s participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine and requires Bulgaria to support Ukraine’s lawsuit against Russia in the European Court of Human Rights.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Bulgaria, Ivan Demerdzhiev, said earlier that the government allowed to continue the program for the accommodation of Ukrainian refugees.
